Finke Gorge National Park

Finke Gorge National Park, Northern Territory

Finke Gorge National Park is 46,000 hectares of sprawling wilderness about 2 hours drive west of Alice Springs. The park is home to the lush oasis of Palm Valley, a haven for many rare plant species including the famously unique Red Cabbage Palm.
The park can be enjoyed on foot on the many local walking trails, such as the Arankaia Walk, the Kalaranga Lookout Walk or the Mpulungkinya Walk, or in a four-wheel drive during the dry season. The Finke River is dry for most of the year however visitors should be aware that it occasionally floods in the warmer months, making driving in certain areas of the park impossible. Visitors can learn about the Dreamtime stories of the local Arrernte people and take in some spectacular views on the two-hour Mpaara Walk.
